I’m passionate about good nutrition and its value in keeping us healthy. I also feel there is no reason to eat animals when we can get all the nutrition we need without doing so, and plant-based eating is important for the environmental benefits it provides.
It is disheartening when someone would like to follow a vegan or vegetarian diet but they don’t feel they can. They may be unsure of what to eat, or think that they can’t be healthy eating plant-based. Others may be curious about vegetarian or vegan eating but don’t take it any further.
Plant-based eating can provide all the nutrients needed to be healthy and I can help you know how to do this.
The American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics position paper on vegetarian and vegan diets states that these diets are appropriate for all ages, are healthful and nutritionally adequate, and compared with diets rich in animal products, are more environmentally sustainable.
I started this plant-based nutrition service in order to help others be healthy when eating plant-based, whether they are vegan or vegetarian or want to give it a go, and whether they are motivated by health, animals, or the environment.
I graduated with a Master of Science (Nutrition and Dietetics) from the University of Wollongong in 1999 and Batchelor of Science (Nutrition) in 1997, and now have 20 years experience as a Dietitian.
Having worked in hospital and community settings as a senior dietitian and manager of a dietetic service, I have a broad range of nutrition experience with many different types of clients. These include paediatrics to geriatrics, and conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, gastrointestinal diseases, feeding difficulties, allergies, and neurological and respiratory conditions.
I have personally eaten plant based for over 20 years, the past 15 years being vegan. Animal cruelty, and environmental and health benefits are all important reasons for this. My partner has also eaten plant-based long term and our 9 year old daughter is a life long vegan.
I provide services across all of Australia via telehealth (online) consults, from my base in Wollongong. This was a decision I made in order to provide a convenient, cost effective service to people wherever they may be, while allowing me to work in a flexible way.
